OPER DYNAMO WEST führt ab dem 10. Dezember im HAU an den "AMAZONAS", Christoph Winkler erzählt im Ballhaus Ost "Eine Geschichte" und zeigt “A Taste of Ra” in Leipzig und die weiteren Vorstellungen von "MATKOT" von Nir De Volff/TOTAL BRUTAL versprechen im Dock 11 einen Tag am Strand.

OPER DYNAMO WEST AMAZONAS - Eine phonographische Anstrengung

In den Kellern des Ethnologischen Museums Berlin schlummern tausende Tondokumente, die mit Hilfe des Phonographen im 19. Jahrhundert auf beschwerlichen Reisen gesammelt wurden. OPER DYNAMO WEST geht auf Expedition ins Wachswalzenarchiv, folgt den Spuren der Forscher und sammelt dabei Reiseberichte, technische Daten und zerkratzte Melodien und Rhythmen aus aller Welt.
Aus dem Material entsteht ein Tunnel in das Tonstudio unserer Bühne und zu dem Moment, als die Forscher sich schwitzend, zitternd und übermüdet auf der Jagd nach Musik durch die Fremde kämpften. Im Rauschen des Staubs in den Rillen der Wachswalzen findet OPER DYNAMO WEST Trommeln im Urwald, chinesische Gesänge und Schweizer Jodelchöre und fragt nach den Anstrengungen des Archivierens zwischen Wachswalzen und digitalen Datenmassen. Dabei entsteht eine szenische Collage aus Texten, Bildern und Komposition.

Wird eine Information verweigert, liegt nahe, dass sie entweder nicht bekannt ist oder ein guter Grund besteht, sie nicht mitzuteilen. Genauso verhält es sich mit unserer Realität: Entweder sie spielt keine Rolle oder wir akzeptieren, dass wir zum gegebenen Zeitpunkt nicht alles wissen können. Wir operieren dann mit einer vorläufigen Version der Realität, mit der Wahrscheinlichkeit.
Jedes Bild, das wir benutzen, ist also gleichzeitig echt und wahrscheinlich echt, kann es doch immer nur Zeuge eines beschränkten Blickwinkels sein. Mit der Massenproduktion von Bildern kommt es demnach nicht nur zu einer Potenzierung des Realen, sondern vor allen Dingen zur Belastung mit den Beschränkungen ihrer Herstellung. Sie müssten alle mitbedacht werden, um das Reale zu begreifen. Da das aber niemand leisten kann, ist das Reale nur dann wirksam, wenn man nicht darüber nachdenkt.
»Eine Geschichte« beschäftigt sich mit genau diesem Paradox. In Form einer performativen Bilderzählung wird gefragt, wie sich Foto und Text zueinander verhalten und worauf man zu achten hat, wenn man nicht genau weiß, ob das nächste Bild das letzte sein wird.

Heute sind wir alle angehalten, unser eigenes Projekt zu werden. Wir sind unsere eigenen Futurologen. Gleichzeitig bedienen sich die meisten Zeitdiagnosen der Präposition Post - Postmoderne, Postmaterialismus, nach 68. Wäre es nicht an der Zeit, sich wieder vom epilogischen Zeitalter zu verabschieden, um gelegentlich in die Sterne zu schauen? Ein Kollektiv aus Tänzern, Schauspielern und Skeptikern nimmt die künstlerische Strategien der Jazz-Legende Sun Ra zum Anlass, um Fragen nach dem Verhältnis von Gegenwart und Zukunft neu zu stellen. Ihre Antworten und ihre Zweifel sind Grundlage von ?"A Taste of Ra?". Aliens kommen auch vor, denn nach wie vor gilt: Space is the place!

OPER DYNAMO WEST AMAZONAS - A Phonographic Effort

In the cellars of the Ethnological Museum Berlin lie thousands of audio documents collected with the help of phonographs in the 19th century during arduous travels. OPER DYNAMO WEST goes on an expedition into the phonograph cylinder archive, on the trail of other explorers and along the way they collect travel reports, technical data and scratchy melodies and rhythms from all over the world.
The material becomes a tunnel into the sound studio of our stage and the moment, when the explorers fight their way sweating, shaking and fatigued in chase of music through strange lands. In the static of the dust in the grooves of the cylinders, the OPER DYNAMO WEST discovers drums in the jungle, Chinese songs and Swiss yodelling choirs and inquires into the effort behind archivisation between phonograph cylinders and masses of digital data. The result is a scenic collage of text, images and compositions.

When information is refused, it is fair to assume that it is either unknown or that there are good reasons for not wishing to communicate it. The same is the case with reality: either it doesn’t matter or we accept that we can’t know everything at a given point in time. Thus we operate with a provisional version of reality, with probability.
Every image that we use is therefore simultaneously both real and probably real, as each individual image can never do more than testify to a limited perspective. Mass production of images therefore not only leads to an exponentiation of the real, but above all burdens us with awareness for the limitations of their creation. All these aspects must be taken into consideration if we want to grasp the real. However, because it is beyond the ability of any one person to do so, the real can only come effect if not thought about.
This is exactly the paradox explored by the piece “Eine Geschichte” (A Story). In a performance narrative of images, the actors question the relationship between photo and text and try to understand what we really should be paying attention to, if we don’t know whether the next image will be the last.

Nir De Volff / TOTAL BRUTAL will guarantee you crying babies, barking dogs and hundreds of beachball players and nacked bodies, coming closer and closer. 
MATKOT, the Hebrew word for beach ball, explores the social complexity of the beach and our inconsistent behaviour as visitors and users of nature. MATKOT is about the need to relax, the moment when a dream is falling apart and the process of collecting bits and pieces struggling to construct a new image.

After suffering various injustices in the 1950’s, African American musician Sun Ra reinvented himself: he claimed to be from the planet Saturn and only a guest in this world, which was so unacceptable to him. He created an entire personal universe of theosophy, Egyptology, afro-futurism and jazz music.
Today, we are all expected to take our lives into our own hands and mould ourselves into our own image. We are our own futurologists. At the same time, most social, political and aesthetic theories today freely make use of the preposition ‘post’ – postmodern, post-history, after 68... But isn’t it high time to say goodbye to the epilogical age and turn our gaze towards the stars?
In “A Taste of Ra”, a collective of dancers, actors and skeptics explore Sun Ra’s artistic strategies in order to question our understanding of the relationship between the present and the future. In dance and text, they formulate their doubts and possible solutions. But careful! There may also be some aliens waiting along the way, for space is the place – today more than ever!
